7digital goes West to undercut iTunes
Dienstag, 6. Oktober 2009British download store 7digital has launched a US outlet, undercutting iTunes. 7digital charges 77 cents (48p) for a single track and $7.77 (£4.87) for an album from its US store, around 20% less than iTunes US. Despite this, 7digital CEO Ben Drury told journalists this morning that he believes 7Digital can turn a profit in the US.
All four majors are on board with the US store, as are key indies via aggregators including IODA and The Orchard. All tracks sold are MP3s encoded at 320 kbps, higher than the iTunes standard.
